Aine & James
Aine & James got married during what I can only describe as the hottest period of Irish weather I have ever experienced. It was certainly the hottest day I’ve ever photographed a wedding and that’s including all of the weddings I’ve photographed in Europe & America.
On the day before the wedding there wasn’t a cloud to be seen, blue skies all around. Options for shade seemed to be few and far between as we took in a scenic tour of the photo locations around Galway and we prayed for a few light clouds to arrive and save the day. It was great to catch up with Aine & James again just before their big day.
When the wedding morning arrived, I met up with Aine and her family in Hotel Meyrick in Galway. Thankfully, the Meyrick were well equipped to deal with the heat wave and they had extra air con units installed keeping everything comfortable. The hair and makeup were done in one of the large suites which provided us with plenty gorgeous natural light, even a view of Galway Cathedral where the ceremony would later take place. Aine's dad lit up when he saw his daughter in her dress for the first time.
James got ready just a short 5 minute stroll away in the Galmont Hotel. His folks and his best man were on hand to help him get ready. It was very clear James was more than ready to meet his bride at the altar.
The ceremony took place in the beautiful setting of Galway Cathedral, situated on the bank of the River Corrib. The ceremony was very personal, officiated by one of James army colleagues and complete with a military guard of honour.
After the ceremony we moved on to the quadrangle at NUI Galway for the formal family pictures. This proved to be a very popular spot for weddings as we met two weddings when we visited the day before and another arrived just after we did on this day. We literally had a small army though, so we took over control of the Quadrangle.
Next, Aine, James and I set off for Renville Park where Aine braved a stony beach for some quick and beautiful shots before we found some softer ground to finish off the session. Aine and James moved in sync so perfectly and the elements all played in our favour to help me capture the magic!
Our last stop was Hotel Meyrick for the reception and the party. The newlyweds proved they had some serious moves on the dancefloor!!
